H.E. Mr. Ahmed Sareer, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Maldives has urged the Members of the UN Security Council to take stronger and meaningful actions to end conflict in Palestine and the Middle East. In his statement at the Security Council's quarterly open debate, he also called upon Israel to take concrete actions towards ending its occupation and paving the way for a two state solution.

The Maldives strongly condemned the unwarranted restrictions imposed by Israel in theoccupied territory of Palestine; including the

West Bank, Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem. The Maldives also reiterated support for Palestine on their journey to becoming a full member state of the United Nations.

 

During the open debate on the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question, the Maldives also condemned the recent attack on the Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Iran, and also the terrorist attacks in Beirut in November by ISIL.

Member States that spoke at the open debate convened by Uruguay as the current President of the Council, highlighted the absence of progress towards a political solution to the conflicts in the Middle East. They further expressed concern on the continued incidents of violence between Israel and Palestine and urged for an early resumption of talks between them.
