On behalf of the Maldives delegation, Mr. Ahmed Fazeel, Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, underscored that it is no longer sufficient to simply bringing an end to the armed conflicts, but that States should actively work to prevent conflict and consolidate peace in post-conflict situations through building institutional capacities.

The Maldives emphasized that the mandates of special political missions must be crafted and implemented through consultations and processes that are inclusive, in line with fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter, which are inter-alia impartiality, objectivity, inclusivity, respect for national sovereignty and non-interference in the internal affairs of States. The statement further urged to take into account the unique capacities, limitations, and conditions of host nations, noting that a "one-size-fits-all approach will simply fail to suffice".
