The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding political consultations.  The MoU was signed by Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid, on behalf of the Government of the Maldives, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, on behalf of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, at the Permanent Mission of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations in New York.

The MoU was signed to enhance and expand bilateral relations and foster mutual understanding between both countries. Under the MoU, both countries agreed to hold regular consultations at all levels regarding bilateral relations and international issues of common interest.

The signing ceremony was preceded by a bilateral meeting between the Maldives and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, attended by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Khaleel, Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the United Nations Thilmeeza Hussain, and Senior Officials from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
