28 July 2017, New York, Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the UN, Ambassador Ali Naseer Mohamed said today that "Terrorism and violent extremism represent the most profound threats to human progress, and indeed human rights, the world over". The Ambassador made the remarks in his Statement to the UN General Assembly's plenary meeting on "Global Counter Terrorism Strategy" held today at the UN Headquarters in New York. Ambassador Mohamed highlighted the strong measures that the Maldives has been taking in the global fight against terrorism and violent extremism, and in particular, against foreign terrorism fighters through implementation of Counter Terrorism Act, Prevention of Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing Act, both of which were enacted as part of the Government of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom's national policy on counter terrorism and counter radicalisation. In his statement, Ambassador Mohamed reiterated the Maldives strong commitment to work with the international community in stopping and eliminating the menace of terrorism. ENDS
