President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has sent a congratulatory message to the President of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, following the raising of the Palestinian flag at the UN headquarters.
The President's message reads as follows:
"On behalf of the Government and the people of the Maldives, it gives me great pleasure to extend to you sincere congratulations on the raising of the Palestinian flag at the headquarters of the United Nations in New York."
"This momentous step forward is one that will pave the way towards the recognition of Palestinian statehood. The Government and the people of the Maldives join me in assuring Your Excellency that the Maldives will continue to remain at the forefront of providing unconditional support to Palestine during this historic journey."
"While expressing the hope that the relations between our two countries will be further strengthened in the years to come, allow me also to convey to Your Excellency, my personal good wishes for your health and well-being."
