Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Dunya Maumoon will participate in the General Debate of the 69th session of the United Nations General Assembly. Minister Dunya departed Male’ tonight.

Speaking to the press before her departure, Minister Dunya highlighted that Maldives will once again resume an active role at the General Assembly, supporting a wide-range of issues including peace and security, human rights, development, the environment and climate change, and rule of law and terrorism. Maldives will also strive to increase the role and voice of small island developing states at the UN.

Minister Dunya will also address the 29th Special Session of the United Nations General Assembly on the Porgramme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development to be held on 22 September 2014, as well as the Secretary General’s Climate Summit to be held on 23 September 2014. Both meetings will be held ahead of the opening of the General Debate on 24 September 2014.

The Maldives delegation to the 69th Session of the General Assembly will be headed by Former President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan, Former President and Special Envoy of the President of the Republic of Maldives to the General Assembly.
