Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Dunya Maumoon met the US Assistant Secretary of State Ms. Nisha Biswal today, and exchanged views on deepening relations between the two countries.

 

Discussing various issues of bilateral importance between the two countries, the Minister noted the development strides Maldives has gained over the past years and its prominent role at the world stage especially with regard to its central role on climate change negotiations. Given that these gains were made with the partnership of the United States, Minister Dunya noted that they offer potential for a stronger and more dynamic relationship between the two countries.

 

Congratulating the Maldives for its fiftieth anniversary of independence, the US Assistant Secretary of State viewed that the Maldives prosperity and its international status need to be maintained including through the strengthening of its democratic character.

 

Both expressed hope to see the relationship grow further. The meeting was held today on the sidelines of the 70th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
