Minister Asim speaks at the High level meeting on Hurricane Irma
New York, 18 September 2017
Minister Asim extended condolences and expressed solidarity with the people of the Caribbean countries affected by Hurricane Irma, during the High Level meeting held this afternoon at the United Nations headquarters. Minister noted that climate change is making storms stronger and more deadly and expressed hope that an outcome of this latest storm would be a true reckoning with what the world is facing from global warming today.
The purpose of today's meeting was to draw high-level attention to the suffering and loss of livelihoods caused by hurricane Irma. It provided a platform for countries most affected by Hurricane Irma to share their experiences and the international community to express their solidarity with the people of the countries impacted. This meeting was co-hosted by the United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres and the President of the General Assembly Miroslav Lajcak.
