23 March 2018, New York, Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Mohamed Asim met with the President of the 72nd session of the General Assembly Mr. Miroslav Lajčák, today. During the meeting, the Minister commended the ongoing initiatives of the President of the General Assembly, including his efforts to improve transparency and dialogue among the Member States. The Minister also raised the importance of ensuring the equitable representation and participation of the Small Island Developing States (SIDS), at the United Nations, and all processes. The Minister also thanked the President for his invitation to attend and speak at the High Level Meeting to launch the "International Decade for Action: Water for Sustainable Development 2018-2028", held on 22 March 2018. He further highlighted the priorities of the SIDS in the various processes ongoing during the 72nd session of the General Assembly, as the Chair of the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS). President Lajčák congratulated the Maldives for the active role it plays at the United Nations, and in representing the interests of the Small Island Developing States, and briefed the Minister on the upcoming high-level events and processes of the session. He encouraged the Maldives to continue to engage and contribute to the discussions. ENDS
