23 March 2018, New York, Minister Asim hosted a luncheon meeting for Permanent Representatives of the Caribbean countries During the meeting, Minister Asim and the Permanent Representatives discussed issues of mutual interest, including the promotion and protection of the priorities of Small Island Developing States at the UN, climate change, and sustainable development. The Permanent Representatives also informed the Minister on SADC priorities at the United Nations, including on Security Council reform.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Mohamed Asim also met with the Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations today, to discuss issues of mutual interest, especially with regard to the United Nations Security Council. The Maldives is campaigning for support in its bid to become a member of the Council for the term 2019-2020.
Minister Asim is visiting New York to speak at the High Level Meeting to launch the "International Decade for Action: Water for Sustainable Development 2018-2028" hosted by the President of the General Assembly. The Minister delivered remarks on behalf of the Chair of the Alliance of Small Island States yesterdayssion, as well participated as a panellist, in the panel discussion on the Role of relevant stakeholders in mobilising needed means for implementation and follow-up of water-related SDGs.
