Foreign Minister Ms Dunya took to the podium today at the UN General Assembly's annual debate, highlighting that "building the resilience of our people must remain at the center of all our efforts: abroad and at home". While reflecting on the policies at home, the Foreign Minister emphasized that President Yameen's government has embarked on a national development programme that is based on "people empowerment"; empowerment of women, empowerment of children, and empowerment of youth.

 

Moving forward, the Foreign Minister noted that investing in people is the best way to promote human rights. She further underscored that "Investing in people...is the best way to promote human rights". It is the best way, to ensure that the gains made in democracy are consolidated and further enhanced, the Foreign Minister noted.

 

As head of the Maldives Delegation, Minister Dunya made these remarks while delivering the statement at the annual general debate of the seventieth session of the United Nations General Assembly.
