Today afternoon, in the newly renovated and opened General Assembly Hall at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, the opening session of the 69th General Assembly took place. The meeting was presided over by H.E. Sam Kutsea, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uganda who will serve as President of the General Assembly during this 69th General Assembly.
The Maldives delegation was present at the meeting and is set to engage in the upcoming months on the key priorities of its work at the United Nations, inter alia on sustainable development, climate change, human rights, women empowerment and international peace and security. As 69th Session is significant in its programme of work dealing with negotiations on Post-2015 Development Agenda, the Maldives delegation also looks forward to its continuous engagement in that process. The regular session of the General Assembly will last from September to end of December.
