3 October 2017, New York Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the UN, Ambassador Ali Naseer Mohamed today underscored that the act of terrorism should have no place in the civilized world. He particularly condemned, all acts of terrorism, committed in the name of Islam. Ambassador Mohamed made the remarks in his Statement to the UN General Assembly's Sixth Committee plenary meeting on 'Measures to eliminate International Terrorism' held today at the UN Headquarters in New York. "Terrorism seeks to undermine the most fundamental and deeply cherished values of freedom, inclusivity, tolerance and respect " he said. Ambassador Mohamed underlined the strong measures that the Maldives has been taking in its efforts to counter terrorism and violent extremism, in particular, prevention of extremism at the community level through the National Counter Terrorism Center of the Maldives. He also highlighted the implementation of Counter Terrorism Act, Prevention of Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing Act, both of which were enacted as part of the Government of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom's national policy on counter terrorism and counter radicalization and underscored the work carried out in collaboration of UNODC and CTED on capacity building programs. In his statement, Ambassador Mohamed also reiterated the Maldives' strong commitment to partner with the regional and international partners, to work on a unified platform to fight the menace of terrorism.
