The Maldives expressed is solidarity with the Palestinian people and reiterated its unwavering support for the legitimate and inalienable rights of the Palestinian People. The Maldives emphasised that Israel’s national policies consistently, blatantly violate international law and constitute a system of apartheid against the Palestinians. The Maldives also voiced that there is no justification and no excuse for further deprivation of aid and assistance to the Palestinian people, with over two thousand Palestinians killed over the last year, over 25,000 housing units destroyed, and a third of the population displaced. Through this occupation Israel is directly responsible for systematic violations of fundamental rights, including arbitrary arrests and detentions of minors.

The Maldives has called for an immediate withdrawal of Israeli forces from all occupied territories, and called upon Israel to end decades of injustice, violence and hatred. Maldives further reaffirmed its long-standing support for a two state solution

The statement was in response to the report submitted to the General Assembly by the Special Committee to Investigate Israeli Practices Affecting the Human Rights of the Palestinian People and Other Arabs of the Occupied Territories. The Maldives thanked the Chairman and the Special Committee for his report and welcomes the report’s recommendations. The statement was delivered at the Fourth Committee, the 70th UNGA session, by His Excellency Mr. Ahmed Sareer, Permanent Representative of the Republic for Maldives to the UN.
