The Maldives reaffirmed its commitment to the Group of 77. Speaking at the Annual Coordination Meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Group of 77 and China, on the sidelines of the General Debate of the 69thsession of the United Nations General Assembly, Foreign Secretary Dr Ali Naseer Mohamed, commended the work of the Group in promoting the collective economic interests and advocating for the causes, which impede development.

The Foreign Secretary further noted the important work that the Group has done in terms of providing a platform for small states to voice their opinions, as well as on increasing the accountability and transparency of the organization. Noting that the Group celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, he noted the importance of reflecting on the reform and transformation 50 years can bring to an organization. Refocusing on the future of development, the Foreign Secretary urged to focus on the ensuring that the post-2015 development agenda provides for a global partnership for development.
