Maldives holds a reception at the United Nations Headquarters to mark 50 years of independence and the fiftieth anniversary of Maldives membership at the UN.  The reception was hosted by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Her Excellency Ms. Dunya Maumoon.

 

At the event, Foreign Minister Dunya noted that the Maldives joined the United Nations “…because of our belief in the equality and legitimacy the organisation offers”.  Welcoming the invitees, she observed their presence as an assurance “…of the international community’s support to the Maldives, as we continue our development journey”.

 

A photo gallery illustrating Maldives history, tradition, culture and achievement in both the global and domestic arena was showcased at the event.  In addition, a mini-booth containing fine Maldivian handicrafts were displayed.

Ministers and senior officials from various countries, United Nations diplomatic community and Maldivians residing in New York were in attendance at the reception.
