“The biggest threat to Islam is from ignorance”, said Foreign Secretary Dr Ali Naseer while speaking at the Annual Coordination Meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). The Foreign Secretary further spoke about the danger of ignorance and apathy, while highlighting the heightened focus Islam placed on acquiring knowledge.

“The biggest harm we do to the cause of enlightenment is our silence: our silence when education is denied on the basis of sex, our lack of concern when the acquisition of knowledge is somehow termed “western” and rejected, our indifference when those who strive to further the cause of education, the horizons of our mind are routinely silenced”, he noted.

The Meeting also adopted a resolution on the Israeli Attacks against the Blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque. The Maldives, in its statement, reiterated strong support to the rights of Palestinian people to self-determination, and to freedom, justice, dignity and an independent and contiguous state.
