Maldives calls on the International Community to take immediate action against the atrocities faced by Rohingya Muslims
19 September 2017, New York, Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mohamed Asim has called on the International Community to take immediate action against the atrocities faced by the Rohingya Muslims, while speaking at the OIC Emergency meeting on the situation of Rohingya Muslims this held this afternoon on the side-lines of the High Level Segment of the United Nations General Assembly.
Minister Asim stated that the Maldives is deeply concerned over the continued acts of human rights violations and barbarous assaults against the Rohingya Muslims and urged the Myanmar government to respect its obligations under international humanitarian laws, and to fully cooperate with UN agencies, non-governmental organisations and all others to provide humanitarian assistance to the Rohingya population.
The emergency meeting was convened by the OIC to mobilise the International community on the plight of Rohingya Muslims and to address the crisis faced by the Rohingya Muslim minority in Myanmar.
