Minister of Foreign Affairs Ms Dunya Maumoon, and Minister of Environment and Energy Mr Thoriq Ibrahim met with the Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme Ms Helen Clark, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly. During the meeting, Maldives and UNDP pledged to work together towards stronger engagement.

 

 

The discussions focused on the new United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) that was signed between the Government and the United Nations in August 2015, as well as UNDP’s support for Maldives as the Chair of the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS). Ms Clark congratulated the Maldives on its 50 years of active engagement at the United Nations, and for the leadership demonstrated as the Chair of AOSIS.

Foreign Secretary Dr Ali Naseer Mohamed, Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the UN Mr Ahmed Sareer, and Chief Negotiator for AOSIS Mr Amjad Abdulla also joined the Meeting.
