20 November 2017, New York, The Maldives Minister of Environment and Energy H.E Thoriq Ibrahim participated at the High Level Event on "Partnering for Sustainable Development Goals, Implementation, Financing and Monitoring: Sharing Innovations through South-South and Triangular Cooperation" jointly organised by Bangladesh and United Nations Office on South-South Cooperation held today. Speaking at the event this morning, Minister highlighted some the challenges faced by the Maldives since graduation from LDC in 2011. Minister emphasised that the government of Maldives prioritizes resilient infrastructure, improving service delivery to vulnerable populations and investing in energy efficiency and renewables. Minister noted the important role of regional support and cooperation for the successful achievement of many of these goals. Infrastructure development in the country, for one, has received tremendous support from our southern partners and has only been possible through concessional financing from our friends in the region he said.
