23 September 2016, New York; The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives, H.E. Dr. Mohamed Asim has met with the Under Secretary-General of the United Nations and High Representative for LDCs, LLDCs, and SIDS H.E. Gyan Chandra Acharya on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The Minister thanked the Under Secretary-General for his continued support to the Maldives, the Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and to the Alliance of Small Island States which Maldives chairs. The Under Secretary-General in recognized the leadership of Maldives in the lead up to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and the Paris Agreement, as well as the Addis Ababa Action Agenda.
The Minister and the Under Secretary-General also discussed future collaboration on SIDS advocacy issues.
The meeting was attended by Foreign Secretary Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed and Mr. Ahmed Sareer, Ambassador/ Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the United Nations.
