20 September 2016, New York: Foreign Minister Dr. Asim met with Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Singapore today at the sidelines of the 71st Session of the UNGA in New York, during which they discussed areas of cooperation that could build on Maldives and Singapore’s historic relations.

The Foreign Ministers also exchanged views on further expanding economic and trade relations between the countries.

The two Ministers further discussed on the importance of coordinating their engagement on issues of mutual concern before the 71st session of the UNGA.  As small states that have similar challenges of building resilience, they emphasized the necessity of working together in the implementation of Paris climate change agreement and 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
