22 September 2016, New York; The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives, H.E. Dr. Mohamed Asim met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka, H.E. Mr. Mangala Samaraweera earlier today at the sidelines of the UNGA 71st Session.  This meeting provided an opportunity for both the Ministers to reaffirm their countries' strong historic relations.

The Ministers discussed avenues for cooperation across a wide range of bilateral and regional issues and confidence to continue working closely to further

consolidate the existing bonds of friendship between the governments and the peoples of the two countries.

The Ministers also exchanged views on coordinating the work before the UNGA 71st session that the two countries' have mutual interest.

The meeting was attended by Foreign Secretary Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed and Mr. Ahmed Sareer, Ambassador/ Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the United Nations.
