President Yameen has appointed Dunya Maumoon as the new Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives. The Minister has previously served as the State Minister for Foreign Affairs under former President Waheed and as the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs under former President Gayoom. Before that, Ms Maumoon served as the head of Multilateral Affairs.

Before working in the Government, Dunya Maumoon served as the Assistant Representative of the UNFPA in Maldives. In addition to focusing on developmental issues, Ms Maumoon has been one of the nation's foremost advocates of conservation, environmental sustainability, human rights, and gender parity. 

Minister Dunya also has substantial experience working with Maldivian civil society and with efforts to introduce socially conscious legislation, having been one of the primary proponents of the Parliamentary Bill on Domestic Violence.

 Ms Maumoon is currently married and has three children.
