Statement by Mr. Ahmed Sareer, Vice-Chairman of the Maldives Delegation to the Sixty-Second Session of the United Nations General Assembly, on the First Report of the General Committee (A/62/250), 21 September 2007, New York
Mr. President,
Allow me at the outset, to congratulate you on your assumption of the Presidency of the sixty-second session of the United Nations General Assembly. I assure you of my delegation’s full cooperation in ensuring the success of our work.
The delegation of Maldives fully supports the position expressed by the People’s Republic of China, on the issue of the Chinese representation in the United Nations. My delegation’s firm conviction of one-China policy is guided by the principles of respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity and non-interference in the internal affairs of states. In this regard, Maldives fully endorses the recommendation of the General Committee not to include Agenda Item 165 in the agenda of the 62nd Session of the United Nations General Assembly, as contained in the document A/62/250.
Thank you, Mr. President.
