No society can sustain peace, nor can it realise peace dividends, unless women
are involved in making decisions on peace-making and post-conflict
reconstruction and rehabilitation.

Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the UN, Ambassador Ali Naseer Mohamed said today that ‘No society can sustain peace, nor can it realise peace dividends, unless women are involved in making decisions on peace-making and post-conflict reconstruction and rehabilitation. Speaking at the UN Security Council open debate on ‘promoting the implementation of the Women, Peace and Security agenda and sustaining peace through women’s political and economic empowerment’, Ambassador Mohamed said that there is sufficient empirical evidence that investing for inclusivity of women results in achieving social and economic progress.

In his remarks, Ambassador Mohamed also recommended the Security Council to consider meaningful participation and empowerment of women across all agenda items, including in all mandate renewals and most importantly requested the Security Council to produce analytical evidence-based progress reports on the implementation of women, peace and security.
