Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives, Abdulla Shahid had a meeting with the Foreign Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs of the State of Kuwait, Dr. Ahmad Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, in Kuwait City, today.
During the meeting, the two Ministers spoke on the long history of cooperation between Maldives and Kuwait, and the cordial people-to-people links and business-to-business ties enjoyed by the two countries. Minister Shahid made special note of the generous support and assistance provided to the Maldives through the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, and expressed gratitude on behalf of the government and people of the Maldives for the invaluable contributions made by Kuwait towards the socio-economic development of the Maldives, over the years.
The two Ministers exchanged perspectives on the situation of the Covid-19 pandemic, and discussed strategies to build back better, and become more resilient. Minister Shahid briefed on the Maldives’ National Resilience and Recovery 2020-2022 plan, which focuses on economic diversification and strengthening the social and governance sectors. The two Ministers reiterated their commitment to fortify and further diversify the close bilateral relationship between Maldives and Kuwait, and reaffirmed confidence toward working together in the multinational arena on areas of shared interest.
Minister Shahid was accompanied at the meeting by the Secretary, Multilateral of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives, Dr. Hala Hameed, Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives, Moomina Ibrahim, and Assistant Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Salman Zaki.
