NZ20 September 2016, New York: The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Maldives, H.E . Dr. Mohamed Asim   has met with the Minister for Foreign Affairs of New Zealand, H.E Mr. Murray McCully on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Minister Asim commended New Zealand's initiatives at the United Nations Security Council on the challenges facing small island states like the Maldives and stated that Maldives was pleased to participate in the debate. The two Ministers exchanged views on working together to continue advocacy on the subject. Both Ministers discussed ways in which relations between the two countries can be further strengthened.

Maldives shares experiences on ICT use in public service delivery

20 September 2016, New York; At a side held event held on the margins of the 71st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Mohamed Asim shared Maldives experiences on the use of information technology in the delivery of public services.  He also explored various approaches to improve and advance public service delivery in the developing counries.

Minister Asim outlined the unique potential offered to facilitate the rapid adoption and dissemination of cutting-edge technology in IT-related fields, that was offered to the Maldives as a small island country. In this regard, he highlighted the specific examples of Government e-Letter Management System (GEMS) targeted to improve efficiency in inter-Ministry correspondence, as well as the E-government services such as Expatriate Online Services, Work-Permit related transactions, and driving exams.

Foreign Minister Asim leads Maldives delegation at the 71st UN General Assembly

UNGA7120 September 2016, New York:The annual General Debate of the United Nations General Assembly opened today at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Asim represented the Government of the Maldives and will also lead the Maldives delegation to the seventy-first session of the United Nations General Assembly. Minister Asim will address the General Assembly on 24 September 2016.

The opening of the seventy-first General Debate was preceded by the presentation of the annual report of the work of the United Nations by the Secretary General of the United Nations Mr Ban Ki-moon, followed by the keynote opening statement delivered by the President of the seventy-first General Assembly, Mr. Peter Thomson, of Fiji.
